What Is Green Cutting & Why People Get Confused About It
Someone on site watched us making cuts through a freshly poured slab the other day and asked us “Why are you cutting it already? Isn’t the concrete still wet?” We told them we were green cutting concrete, and their confusion made perfect sense.
Why? Not just because most people don’t know what that means – but because the term actually has two completely different meanings depending on which part of the construction industry you’re talking to!
No wonder people get mixed up. In fact, plenty of tradies outside our niche aren’t familiar with both versions either.
So let’s clear it up properly and explain:
- What is green cutting concrete
- Why it matters
- And the interesting details that most people never get to hear about.
1. Green cutting = early-age saw cutting (our industry)
This is the meaning used by concrete cutters, builders and commercial crews: making control joints in young concrete to control cracking.
When we talk about green cutting here at Hard Core VIC, that’s what we’re talking about.
